Community groups, schools and councils have until midnight this Friday to apply for grants to help improve road safety in their locality.

Main Roads and Road Safety Minister Mark Bailey said with round six of the Community Road Safety Grants closing soon, community-based organisations shouldn’t miss the chance to apply.

“The road safety grants offer an ideal opportunity for local groups to make a difference in their school or community through education programs and initiatives,” Mr Bailey said.

“Previous grants have assisted with driver education and learner driver mentor programs, information about bicycle and scooter safety and assistance for people with vision impairments.”

Mr Bailey said successful applicants would be announced in August.

“An independent selection committee will assess the applications against set criteria to decide the successful grants recipients and these will be announced during Road Safety Week in August,” he said.

“We all have a role to play in road safety and I encourage groups to apply for a grant to help make a difference in their local community.

“The people best placed to make a difference to road safety in their community are locals.”
