Premier and Minister for the Arts
The Honourable Annastacia Palaszczuk
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has welcomed QBE’s donation of $100,000 to help cyclone and flood-affected residents and its commitment to use local trades and suppliers in the repair and rebuild effort.
The Premier said QBE has provided its donation to Australian Red Cross’ Disaster Relief and Recovery effort.
“I also welcome QBE’s public commitment to use local trades and suppliers, with a number of building and service companies with a permanent local presence in the affected communities retained to coordinate its repair work in the region,” the Premier said.
“My Government made a $1 million contribution to four charities, including Red Cross, that are working on the ground to support Queenslanders severely impacted by Debbie and flooding that followed,” Ms Palaszczuk said.
“We have also launched the Go Local campaign to encourage Queenslanders to support businesses from the affected regions and to help them bounce back sooner and stronger.”
The Premier encouraged anyone wanting to help their fellow Queenslanders to make a donation directly with a respected charity:
- Australian Red Cross Society —1800 811 700 redcross.org.au
- The Salvation Army — 13 SALVOS (13 72 58) www.salvos.org.au
- St Vincent de Paul Society of Queensland — 3010 1002 www.vinnies.org.au/donate
- UnitingCare Community — 1800 001 953 uccommunity.org.au/disaster-relief
“These charities are trained to respond to the needs of communities hit by natural disasters and can provide food, equipment, shelter, and other support,” she said.
Goods and services can also be donated to GIVIT through their website www.givit.org.au.
