Central West health board to benefit from continuity

In a show of confidence in the Central West Hospital and Health Board, four members have been reappointed for four more years by the State Government.

Minister for Health and Ambulance Services Cameron Dick said the board, chaired by experienced nurse and community leader Jane Williams, had provided strong leadership in the delivery of health services in Central Queensland.

“I’m pleased to announced that Associate Professor Nikola Stepanov, Elizabeth Fraser, Dr Clare Walker and Leisa Fraser have been reappointed to the board,” the Minister said

“I congratulate these members and look forward to working with them towards achieving the goal of making Queensland’s health system the best in Australia.

“The fact that so many board members sought reappointment is testament to their dedication to their communities.

“The Central West Hospital and Health Board is a diverse group, with five women and two men – all with a range of backgrounds, experience and skills – combining to ensure the broader community is well-represented in the health space.”

Ms Williams, David Arnold and Bill Ringrose are continuing their terms as board members.

The 16 boards throughout Queensland are responsible under the Hospital and Health Board Act 2011 for local performance of their health services and the delivery of public health services within their communities.

The board reappointments will take effect on 18 May 2017.

Central West Hospital and Health Board

Ms Jane Williams (Chair) is registered nurse with 19 years’ experience in rural and remote health provision;Rural Family Support Officer for the Barcaldine Regional Council; and President of the Parents and Citizens’ Association in Alpha and Jericho – currently appointed until 17/05/2019.

Mr David Arnold (Deputy Chair) is General Manager of the Central Western Queensland Remote Area Planning and Development Board and a member of Regional Development Australia, Fitzroy and Central West  – currently appointed until 17/05/2019

Mr Bill (William) Ringrose is Partner in a Longreach-based chartered accounting firm – currently appointed until 17/05/2019

Associate Professor Nikola Stepanov is Chair of the Townsville Hospital and Health Service Human Research Ethics Committee and also an academic specialising in ethics, law and professional practice within the School of Medicine at the University of Queensland – reappointed until 17/05/2021.

Ms Elizabeth Fraser is a social worker and former Queensland Commissioner for Children and Young People and Child Guardian – reappointed until 17/05/2021

Dr Clare Walker is a General Practitioner with the Longreach Family Medical Practice; Senior Medical Officer with Central West Hospital and Health Service at Longreach Hospital; Board member of the Rural Doctors Association of Queensland; GP training supervisor - reappointed until 17/05/2021

Ms Leisa Fraser is Social Services Manager for the Nhulundu Wooribah Indigenous Health Organisation Inc – reappointed until 17/05/2021.
