Councils have an extra three weeks to lodge applications for the Palaszczuk Government’s $375 million Building our Regions program to give them time to recover from Tropical Cyclone Debbie.

Minister for State Development Dr Anthony Lynham said the closing date for submission of detailed applications for Round 3 had been pushed back from April 7 to April 28.

“We are working to take pressure off the disaster-affected councils and this is just one more way we can help,” he said.

“If councils are ready to submit their applications before the closing date we encourage them to do so as soon as they are ready.

“We will still have Round 3 approved by mid-year.”

Building our Regions is about reinvesting mining royalties into critical infrastructure that generates jobs, fosters economic development and improves liveability in regional communities.

So far, $150 million has been approved for 93 projects from Mapoon to Birdsville that will stimulate economic development and generate almost 1300 direct jobs.
