Whitsunday sport and recreation clubs can now apply for two levels of Queensland Government funding to get back up and running following heavy rain and flooding from Tropical Cyclone Debbie.

Minister for Sport Mick de Brenni said affected clubs within the Whitsunday Regional Council region would now be eligible for up to $20,000 under Level 2 of the Sport and Recreation Disaster Recovery Program to get back up and running.

“Level 2 funding is available to repair and restore damaged infrastructure, replace damaged items not covered by Level 1 funding and mitigate the effect of future damage from disaster events, Mr de Brenni said.

“Sports clubs right across Queensland are at the heart of communities, especially in regional areas, and these clubs are run by volunteers, who are already digging into their hip pockets to fix their own homes and businesses.

"We want to support clubs across Queensland as much as we can to help communities rebuild, especially in communities that have been hit the hardest.”

Mr de Brenni said support is also available for the 28 local government areas that have been declared under the Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA).

“Eligible sport and recreation organisations across these government areas can apply for Level 1 funding of up to $5,000 for clean-up support,” Mr de Brenni said.

“I encourage all eligible clubs impacted, regardless of how minor the works are, to submit an application.”

Mr de Brenni commended the management of sporting clubs for their resilience and wished them all the best during this recovery process.

Application forms are available from Sport and Recreation Services Offices or at www.nprsr.qld.gov.au or phone 1300 656 191 for assistance.
