Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has congratulated Woolworths on its partnership with The Salvation Army, known as “Support Through Australian Natural Disasters” (STAND), that will benefit Queenslanders affected by ex-Tropical Cyclone Debbie and severe flooding that followed.

The Premier said Woolworths provided a donation of $500,000 when STAND was launched in November 2016 and customers can make donations at the checkout.  As at 10 April, customers had donated $140,000.

“I also acknowledge the work of Woolworth to prepare for Debbie by transporting essential groceries, such as long-life milk, water, bread flour and baby formula, to key ports before the Cyclone crossed the coast,” she said.

“Woolworths also had connected its 16 stores between Innisfail to Sarina to generators before Debbie crossed the coast and provided an estimated 110 pallets of free ice to customers in the immediate days after Debbie crossed.”

The Premier encouraged anyone wanting to help their fellow Queenslanders to make a donation directly with a respected charity:

“These charities are trained to respond to the needs of communities hit by natural disasters and can provide food, equipment, shelter, and other support,” she said.

Goods and services can also be donated to GIVIT through their website www.givit.org.au.
