Easter holiday fun at Queensland Recreation Centres

If you’re heading to the beach over the Easter weekend there’s more holiday fun for the family than just sand and surf, with a range of activities on offer at the Queensland Recreation Centres.

Sitting on the doorstep of two stunning locations- Currimundi Beach, Sunshine Coast and Tallebudgera Beach, Gold Coast – the centres offer a mixture of half day and full day family-friendly programs with parents and carers more than welcome to join in.

Minister for Sport Mick de Brenni said with school holidays just around the corner, families should register now to get the kids involved in some exciting and challenging physical activities.

“The options are endless, with surfing lessons and canoeing, high and low ropes courses and archery just some of the awesome activities to choose from,” Mr de Brenni said.

Mr de Brenni said for those looking for the thrill of a vertical rock climb over 9 metres high, the Rock Face is open to the public at both centres on Saturdays and for extended hours over the holiday break.

“The walls each offer over 10 different climbs of varying degrees of difficulty, including crack only climbs and overhangs for more experienced climbers,” he said.

“Both of our Queensland Recreation Centres, Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast, are on par with some of Australia’s premier recreation centres.

“Families looking to take a little more time away can also consider Family Escape packages that offer affordable accommodation with plenty of options to keep the kids entertained, including sporting equipment to shoot hoops or have a hit on the tennis courts.”

Minister for National Parks and the Great Barrier Reef Steven Miles said a visit to either centre was also a chance to get outdoors into some of Queensland’s best national parks.

“At the Gold Coast, David Fleay Wildlife Park and Burleigh Head National Park are within walking distance of the centre,” Mr Miles said.

“And on the Sunshine Coast, the centre is close to a walking trail through the coastal wetlands area leading up to Currimundi Lake and perfectly situated for day trips to Noosa and the Glass House Mountains.

“These centres are such a great asset for Queenslanders, particularly families looking for somewhere affordable to stay and relax during the holidays.

“I encourage everyone to look into the programs, facilities and accommodation options on offer.”

The Easter program runs from Monday 3 April until Thursday 13 April 2017 at both the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast Centres.
