Premier and Minister for the Arts
The Honourable Annastacia Palaszczuk

The proposed electoral redistribution dramatically changes the boundaries of electorates across Queensland, but it doesn’t alter my Government’s commitment to create jobs and restore services for all Queenslanders.

To deliver for Queenslanders, we are providing stable Government focussed on the concerns and ambitions of the community, not ourselves.

Therefore, I can announce the 42 sitting Government Members of Parliament have seats to contest at the next election.

Steven Miles will contest the electorate of Murrumba. There have been name changes that affect a number of Members however their electorates remain largely the same, such as Kate Jones (Cooper), Chris Whiting (Bancroft), Nikki Boyd (D’Aguilar) and Shane King (Kurwongbah).

I have asked the State Secretary for the Labor Party’s Administrative Committee to meet this afternoon to open nominations for these 42 electorates and six others - Cook, Cairns, Jordan, Macalister, Mansfield and Mount Ommaney.

Pre-selections should be concluded by the end of April.

The next election is due early next year and my Government has started preparations for the 13 June State Budget.
