A local electrical company has secured a new Queensland Government contract to maintain schools in the Kingaroy region.

Minister for Housing and Public Works Mick de Brenni said that Wards Electrical was awarded the contract to complete works at Wooroolin State School, Crawford State School, Tingoora State School and Durong South State School.

“It’s great to see a local company taking the lead on this project – schools are a central part of any community, and it makes sense that maintenance work on local schools should be done by local businesses where possible,” Mr de Brenni said.

“Wards Electrical will carry out important maintenance works including replacing louvres, downpipes and tapware, replacing a basketball hoop and cleaning gutters.

“It’s estimated that this contract will support up to seven workers from a range of trades including an arborist, plumber, carpenter and electrician.”

Minister for Education Kate Jones said the work forms part of the Palaszczuk Government’s more than $750 million four year rolling program of school maintenance upgrades.

“Despite spending an additional $300 million on school maintenance, the former LNP Government left us with a $260 million backlog,” Ms Jones said.

“That’s because the LNP had no long-term strategy to solve the problem of school maintenance – their funding was nothing more than a quick fix.

“We are the first to have a long-term plan, and we’re committed to delivering quality facilities for all Queensland state school students.”
