A far north Queensland builder has secured a new Queensland Government contract to upgrade public housing in Pormpuraaw.

Minister for Housing and Public Works Mick de Brenni said Mossman builder G&M Cox Pty Ltd will carry out a range of works including painting, concreting, electrical and plumbing jobs as well as upgrading kitchen and outdoor facilities.

“G&M Cox operates across various locations in the Cape and has previously delivered results for Pormpuraaw,” Mr de Brenni said.

“We expect this contract will support up to 10 workers and provide a boost to the local economy.

“The project forms part of a broader upgrade and maintenance program of work to improve the amenity of social housing properties across Queensland, which the department is working hard to deliver.”

Ministerial Champion for Pormpuraaw Steven Miles welcomed the upgrades.

“Pormpuraaw is a wonderful place, and the Palaszczuk Government is committed to supporting the community’s vision of a happy, healthy and safe future.

“As the Ministerial Champion for Pormpuraaw, I know projects like this can make a big difference in remote communities.”
