The Palaszczuk Government has announced $150,000 in funding over three years to support Brisbane Open House and improve the community’s access to the city’s heritage places.

Minister for Environment and Heritage Protection Dr Steven Miles said the National Trust of Australia (Queensland) would receive $50,000 annually over three years to support the production of Brisbane Open House material such as the guidebook and website.

“Each year, the public gets a behind-the-scenes look at some of Brisbane’s most iconic heritage sites as they open their doors for Brisbane Open House,” Dr Miles said.

“The free event plays an important role in improving the community’s access to and understanding of Brisbane’s heritage places.

“Locals and visitors alike are able explore some of our most unique buildings, many of which are not usually open to the public.

“The event has continued to grow since its establishment in 2010 and the funding will ensure its continued success.”

In 2016, 54 State heritage-listed sites participated in the event, helping to attract more than 68,000 visitors.

“It is great to see the community’s interest in our State’s heritage places,” Dr Miles said.

“The event has inspired people to engage with our historical sites and celebrate the city’s rich history and diverse built environment.

“The Palaszczuk Government is committed to protecting and conserving our State’s places of heritage significance for new generations to use and enjoy.”
