The Honourable Mark Ryan

Police Minister Mark Ryan has acknowledged Queensland police and the Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC) for their hard work on the Operation Altana investigation which has today smashed a high-threat drug syndicate on the Gold Coast.

Four men are facing more than 650 charges of producing, supplying and trafficking methamphetamine (ICE) and cocaine.

The CCC will allege the men were major players in a distribution network that had links to the Hells Angels Outlaw Motorcycle Gang (OMCG) on the Gold Coast.

“This is today further proof of the Palaszczuk Government’s commitment to tackling organised crime in all its forms,” Mr Ryan said.

“Not only has the Government increased resourcing to police in confronting organised crime and the devastating effects of drugs like ICE, but the Government has also introduced the toughest, most comprehensive organised crime legislation in the nation.

“These arrests today confirms the Palaszczuk Government’s zero tolerance approach to organised crime is working and our plan to attack organised crime in all its forms is delivering results.

“My message to anyone wanting to participate in organised crime and the distribution of these insidious and devastating drugs is that the Queensland Police Service and their partner agencies have the resources and the laws to find you, prosecute you and put you away for a very long time.

“We will get you.”

The latest arrests follow the Palaszczuk Government’s announcement this week of a multi-pronged strategy to tackle the horrific effects ICE is having on Queensland communities.

The ICE action plan builds on the Palaszczuk Government’s existing commitment of $43 million over five years for specialist alcohol and drug services throughout Queensland.
