Education, Tourism and Major Events Minister Kate Jones will also be responsible for the Commonwealth Games, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said.

“Kate served as Commonwealth Games Minister with distinction in 2015.  The Games are on track for April 2018. I pay tribute to Stirling Hinchliffe’s stewardship of the Games and his work with GOLDOC Chairman Peter Beattie,” she said.

“The Gold Coast Commonwealth Games will be Queensland’s biggest event.  It is already creating thousands of jobs and opportunities for Queenslanders.”

“With Kate’s experience in the portfolio, we will ensure these Commonwealth Games are the best ever and once again showcase Queensland to the world.”

The Premier said Minister Jones would retain Ministerial responsibilities for Education, Tourism and Major Events.

“Kate is the best Education Minister in Australia.  We are delivering record funding for Education, 875 additional teachers and securing better results in our classrooms,” she said.

“In tourism, Kate has worked hard with the sector to renew confidence and growth in visitor numbers, particularly from overseas, is double-digit growth. We have secured an additional 500,000 extra seats on international flights.”
