    Celebrate safely this NYE

Police officers state-wide are preparing for one of the busiest nights of the year as Queensland gets set to see in 2018.

Police Minister Mark Ryan said police had been working for months to finalise plans for New Year’s Eve – one of the biggest policing operations of the year.

“New Year’s Eve is a great time to celebrate with family and friends – and police are well-prepared to help keep hundreds of thousands of Queenslanders safe wherever they may be tonight,” Mr Ryan said.

“We want Queenslanders to enjoy themselves, but to be responsible and respectful of each other as they celebrate bringing in the New Year.

“Queenslanders will see a large, visible police presence at public areas right across the state including other major centres like Townsville and Cairns.

“Take the time to make a plan to ensure you stay safe and see in the New Year without incident.

“While sharing your memories on social media, encourage family and friends to take care and arrive home safely.”

NYE Commander Superintendent Tony Fleming urged Queenslanders to party responsibly tonight.

“We absolutely want people to have a great time and enjoy themselves,” Superintendent Fleming said.

‘But just keep in mind that you are responsible for your own behaviour. One too many drinks may inhibit your ability to make sensible decisions and making the wrong decision could have life-long consequences.

“If you or anyone you’re out with engages in violent or anti-social behaviour, we will not hesitate to take action – and that includes removing people from entertainment precincts.

“There will be a large number of police out across the state to prevent anti-social behaviour and to ensure everyone’s safety.

“If you’re heading out to celebrate New Year’s Eve, we suggest that you plan your trip in and out ahead of time and be mindful of your surroundings.”
