Treasurer and Minister for Trade and Investment, Curtis Pitt, and Minister for Main Roads, Road Safety and Ports and Minister for Energy, Biofuels and Water Supply, Mark Bailey, have announced a number of board appointments for the State’s Government-owned Corporations (GOCs) and Seqwater.

Mr Pitt said that the appointees were highly experienced in their fields.

“The new board appointees have been selected for their range of skills and expertise and the way those abilities can be utilised on their relevant boards for the benefit of Queenslanders,” he said.

“The mixture of reappointments and new appointments provides a good balance of corporate knowledge and new ideas.

“Our energy, water resources, transport, and funds management businesses operate in an environment of continuing change and their boards continue to deliver strong leadership to ensure they continue to be commercial and efficient.

“Keeping key assets like our ports and electricity networks in public ownership was one of our major election commitments.

“These new appointments ensure that public assets will continue to be steered efficiently, allowing GOCs to deliver vital services while achieving a commercial rate of return which comes back to Government as dividends for all Queenslanders,” Mr Pitt said.

Mr Bailey said that the mix of new and continuing directors would provide continuity of service which would be balanced by the fresh approach and new ideas bought by the latest appointees.

“A key priority of our board appointment process is to provide our GOCs and commercial Statutory Authorities with a strong leadership base and these appointments bring a talented pool of expertise,” he said.

Mr Bailey noted that more than half the new appointments were female with five of the eight new appointments being awarded to women.

“We have committed that 50% of all new board appointees on Queensland Government bodies will be represented by women and are pleased to have exceeded this target with these appointments,” he said.

Mr Pitt and Mr Bailey thanked outgoing GOC directors for their service and welcomed the new appointments to their positions.

The appointments are subject to Executive Council processes and approval by the Governor-in Council.
