The Honourable Kate Jones

A new $8.7 million junior school facility at Kelvin Grove State College has been officially opened by Education Minister Kate Jones.

Ms Jones said with growing student population the new three storey facility will provide a dedicated and modern learning environment for the junior school.

Member for Brisbane Central Grace Grace attended official launch said the new facility will provide a great addition to the school, providing an integrated location for the whole junior school.

“This new facility will help ease enrolment pressure.”

“As well as four Prep and 12 Year 3 to 5 classrooms, there is a science and technology laboratory, a new staffroom, resource preparation and storage areas, and three outdoor learning areas complete with kitchens.”

Kelvin Grove State College Junior Principal Damien Greig said the new facility provided a welcome boost for the college’s junior school, which has a strong focus on literacy and numeracy skills.

“It’s fantastic to see all the students now all learning together in one modern junior facility which facilitates the buddy system in place between Prep and Year 5 students.

“We are particularly happy to have a dedicated science and technology laboratory which is relatively unique in a primary setting and we plan to make full use of it to prepare our students with skills for the future.”
