Some of Queensland’s outstanding SES volunteers will today be recognised for their service, dedication and professionalism in a ceremony at Queensland Fire and Emergency Services headquarters in Kedron.

Police, Fire and Emergency Services Minister Mark Ryan said he was honoured to be a part of the awards ceremony for some of Queensland’s hardest working volunteers.

“Our SES volunteers are widely recognised and greatly appreciated for the hard work, commitment and professionalism they demonstrate every day across Queensland and often under the most challenging circumstances,” Mr Ryan said.

“During the past week, we have presented many SES volunteers with awards for their outstanding efforts in their communities throughout Queensland.

“Today we honour and award the finalists from each region, recognising they are the top achievers in their communities.

“The winners of the regional awards are automatically nominated for the state’s top awards.

“State award winners are chosen by the SES Awards Committee consisting of QFES staff and panel members independent of the SES and QFES.”

Awards include the Commissioners Cup for the Queensland SES Unit/Group of the Year 2017 and the Assistant Commissioner’s Shield for the Queensland SES Operation Response of the Year 2017.

“Today I will be presenting the Minister’s Cup for the 2017 Queensland SES Member of the Year,” Mr Ryan said.

“The Member of the Year Award is for distinguished levels of service by an individual to the SES, including rescue or emergency and disaster response or levels of community engagement.

“Our SES volunteers serve Queenslanders in times of greatest need and for this we are extremely grateful.”

Minister Ryan said SES members sacrifice much, leaving their own families, homes and work, to help communities in distress.

"They also spend many hours training to ensure they provide a professional and compassionate service for Queensland communities, and for this we thank them,” he said.
