Human resources expert, well-known broadcaster and respected leader, Adjunct Professor Janine Walker, has been appointed chair of the Metro South Hospital and Health Board.

Minister for Health and Ambulance Services Cameron Dick said Ms Walker was the ideal person to lead the Board and continue to meet the health needs of the growing Metro South region.

“Ms Walker brings a wealth of experience to the role, having already demonstrated her leadership as a Board member since May 2016, and deputy chair since May 2017,” Mr Dick said.

“With a background in health, academia and broadcasting, Ms Walker has had a long and successful career in senior management including positions at Griffith University, Princess Alexandra Hospital, Queensland Health and the Queensland Public Sector Union.

“Ms Walker has served on numerous boards and committees, including as Australian Broadcasting Corporation Board member, Vocational Education Training and Employment Commission member, Chair of the Australia New Zealand Foundation, and Board Member of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra.

“Ms Walker is also actively involved in the academic and research community, contributing to the Griffith Business School as an Adjunct Professor, chairing events, providing guest lectures and supporting research.

“I congratulate Ms Walker on her appointment and look forward to working with her towards achieving our goal of making Queensland’s health system the best in Australia,” Mr Dick said.

Ms Walker’s appointment follows the retirement of Terry White AO as the inaugural Board Chair of Metro South HHS.

“I sincerely thank Terry for his strong leadership, as well as his commitment to improving health services across the Metro South region over the past five years,” Mr Dick said.

“His guidance has placed Metro South Health in an excellent position to continue to meet our challenges and deliver the very best health care into the future.”

The Metro South Hospital and Health Board is one of 16 boards throughout Queensland responsible under the Hospital and Health Board Act 2011 for local performance of their health services and the delivery of public health services within their communities.

The appointment takes effect from 13 October 2017.
