Ashmore builder wins government housing contract

Gold Coast businesses are among the first to benefit from the Palaszczuk Government’s $1.8 billion Housing Strategy, with works on a new social housing complex at Tugun commencing soon.

Minister for Housing and Public Works Mick de Brenni said Ashmore-based construction company Zined Property Services will build the new $3.5 million 12-unit social housing project.

 “We’re committed to making sure that local businesses have every opportunity to tender for government contracts,” Mr de Brenni said.

“This project will support as many as 180 jobs, including more than 20 apprentices, for a range of trades including carpentry, plumbing, floor laying, block laying, concreting, plastering, cabinet making and painting, so I am very pleased to see a Gold Coast builder taking on the job.”

Mr de Brenni said the three-storey housing development will feature 12 one-bedroom units, 11 car spaces and a lift to service upper floors

“Four apartments in the complex will be built to the Platinum Level of Livable Housing Design Guidelines to accommodate residents with mobility impairment,” Mr de Brenni said.

“These Platinum Level units will be fully wheelchair accessible, with features like wider hallways and doors to aid mobility, as well as lever taps and hobless showers.

“This new development will contribute to building better housing outcomes on the Gold Coast, providing more people with access to safe, secure and affordable housing that is close to jobs, transport and community support.”

Mr de Brenni said as well as increasing social housing availability in the region, the project is part of a pipeline of work that will help support the residential construction industry in the Gold Coast region and support jobs for local tradies.
