Queensland home to Australia’s first official LEGO store

International and interstate tourists have another reason to visit Queensland after Australia’s first LEGO store opened on the Gold Coast today.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the new attraction, based at Dreamworld, would be a favourite for people of all ages and would help bolster local jobs and encourage more tourists to visit the Gold Coast.

“What we will see here is 20 staff working in the store to help LEGO enthusiasts and tourists have a terrific experience,” Ms Palaszczuk said.

“That’s on top of the 50 on-site jobs that were generated through the seven months it took Dreamworld to build such a wonderful attraction, plus another 70 jobs as part of ongoing projects.

“Not only is this a fun place for people to visit, it’s yet another reason for people who come to Queensland for the Commonwealth Games next year to get out and about and expand their Queensland experience beyond the Games.”

Tourism Minister Kate Jones said the flagship LEGO store was another welcome boost for the local tourism industry.

“The Gold Coast is one of Australia’s major tourist destinations – showcasing the best of Queensland to visitors from around the world,” Ms Jones said.

“Attractions like this play a significant role in drawing visitors to South East Queensland.

“Featuring some unique Dreamworld-inspired creations like a tiger, koala and a didgeridoo, I am sure the new LEGO store will be popular with visitors of all ages from all over the world.”
