The Honourable Steven Miles

Visitors will find it easier to get in and out of the popular Gwongorella picnic area at Springbrook thanks to upgrades by the Palaszczuk government.

National Parks Minister Steven Miles said QPWS had recently completed repairs to the entry road, including filling potholes, and would soon reconfigure the entrance to the car park to make a more practical loop road.

“$148,500 has been committed for the project and planning for the works is underway. QPWS anticipates the project will start in the second half of 2017 and be finished in the first half of 2018,”Dr Miles said.

“This will make it easier for vehicles to get in and out of the busy carpark,”Dr Miles said.

“Resurfacing of the road will also be completed. Options to improve the parking and the day-use area are also being considered.

“Gwongorella is one of the most popular spots in Springbrook National Park. It has a lovely picnic area, and it’s where most people park to access the famous Purling Brook Falls lookouts and the Purling Brook Falls walking track circuit.

He said all work would be done in a way to reduce inconvenience to visitors.
