Premier of New South Wales Mike Baird

I pay tribute to the Premier of New South Wales Mike Baird on his partnership and friendship, and wish him and his family the best for the future.

Queensland and New South Wales are traditional rivals, but Mike Baird was prepared to work with me on issues affecting our States and benefiting our citizens.

We developed our tough new serious organised crime in consultation with Mike and his Government.

We fought together - with other Premiers - for a fairer deal from the Australian Government on health and education for our States, the comprehensive roll-out of the National Disability Insurance Scheme and a national redress scheme for survivors of institutional child sexual abuse.  These efforts are ongoing.

Our States have been finalising an update on Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen our cross-border arrangements to focus on important issues, including regional economic development, protection and welling victims of domestic and family violence, protection of children and integrated border bus services.

On behalf of the people of Queensland, I will work with the next Premier of New South Wales where it benefits our State.
