A new partnership between the Palaszczuk Government and AES Building and Maintenance Solutions is set to expand opportunities for people from culturally and linguistically diverse communities in Logan.

Minister for Housing and Public Works Mick de Brenni said he was excited to be able to explore opportunities to work with AES under the partnership as part of the Palaszczuk Government’s Building Better Neighbourhoods plan in Logan.

“This government is investing $34 million into Logan’s public housing maintenance and upgrades over the next two years, which will support hundreds and hundreds of local jobs,” Mr de Brenni said.

“It will require an army of people who want jobs revitalising Logan, like plasterers, carpenters, painters, glaziers and cleaners.

“There’s going to be huge amount of work available, and I’m 100% backing local people and businesses to carry it out."

Mr de Brenni said AES hired people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds who were at higher risk of long-term unemployment.

“By working in partnership with AES, we’re giving more opportunities to people in Logan who might be having difficulty finding stable work,” he said.

“This arrangement with AES will give new members of our community an opportunity to work on projects that will improve the neighbourhoods they live in.

Gail Ker OAM, CEO of Access Community Services, the parent company of AES Building and Maintenance Solutions said that they were excited to explore opportunities for neighbourhood renewal under the partnership.

“AES’ financially viable social business model, enables us to be commercially competitive whilst reinvesting profits back into building further employment opportunities. With a dedicated pre-employment orientation to work program, on the job training and a highly motivated and skilled workforce, working with AES is a choice to make a profound and positive impact on the community whilst boosting the local economy at the same time.

“This partnership will see us work together with the Palaszczuk Government to both identify work contracts that best suit the skills of the AES team, and continue to change the narrative on the important role a diverse workforce can play in the building and construction industry.” she said.

AES Building and Maintenance Solutions is a subsidiary of Access Community Services Limited which provides settlement, employment, training and youth support services to migrants, refugees and other Queenslanders.
