Queensland’s disaster management personnel are now better-connected and equipped for future events following the implementation of a new online portal.

Police, Fire and Emergency Services Minister Bill Byrne said the new online hub gave key stakeholders access to important resources, including guidelines and policies, related to disaster management.

“The delivery of this innovative project marks a new era for disaster management in Queensland,” Minister Byrne said.

“The Disaster Management Portal will improve Queensland’s ability to prevent, prepare, respond and recover when emergencies and disasters strike through increased collaboration and the sharing of essential information.

“It will also let users communicate innovative ideas, and provide feedback and comments, making this a business as usual system in the area of disaster management.

“With more than 1000 registered users accessing the portal, we expect this to grow quickly to become the central consolidated location for disaster management information and collaboration in Queensland.

“We are committed to ensuring disaster management stakeholders have the tools and resources needed to continue keeping our state safe and our communities resilient in the face of disasters and emergencies.”

The development of the $250,000 Disaster Management Portal was undertaken by the Disaster Management Branch of Queensland Fire and Emergency Services, with funding provided by the Natural Disaster Resilience Program through the Department of Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning.
