Minister for Innovation, Science and the Digital Economy Leeanne Enoch has today announced the appointment of Councillor Julia Leu to the Library Board of Queensland.

“Councillor Leu brings a wealth of experience in local government to the Library Board of Queensland, having been Mayor of Douglas Shire Council since 2013, and with over 20 years’ experience in a range of executive roles in Shire and Regional Councils,” Ms Enoch said.

“The Councillor’s local government experience will provide the Library Board with an enhanced understanding of the local government perspective in performing its functions.”

Acting President of the Local Government Association of Queensland, Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill, welcomed the appointment.

“The State Library of Queensland plays a pivotal and long-standing role supporting local councils to operate over 320 public libraries and Indigenous Knowledge Centres throughout the state”
Ms Hill said.

“Therefore a member of Councillor Leu’s experience and perspective is an important and appropriate appointment to the board.

“Councillor Leu’s appointment also remedies an absence of over two years of direct local government representation on the Library Board of Queensland.”

The Board also receives local government input through its Public Libraries Advisory Group.
