The Honourable Mark Bailey

Energy Minister Mark Bailey will set the future agenda for Queensland’s renewable energy landscape by meeting with a series of energy experts across the United States from 3-10 August.

“The United States is recognised as a leader in renewable energy. It is home to leading investors, researchers and policy makers and is leading the charge in a number of fields,” Mr Bailey said.

“This series of high-level meetings with companies, providers and experts in this field will investigate the latest US developments in renewable energy and help us to better understand some of the challenges with transitioning to a clean energy future.

“As we consider pathways towards a Queensland 50 per cent renewable energy target by 2030, the US National Renewable Energy Laboratory is already investigating various scenarios of high-level renewable electricity generation and its application across the US electricity grid.

“We can learn a lot from this important research.”

Mr Bailey said his itinerary also included meetings with leaders in emerging technologies such as household battery storage, utility distribution, electric vehicles and scientific research to look for collaboration and investment opportunities.

“As we continue to develop Queensland’s focus on renewable energy it is important we develop the right policy and market framework, and this visit will include meetings with high-level policy makers from across industry and government,” he said.

“I will also visit Denver following the Premier’s trip in June to further strengthen ties with Queensland researchers on developing commercial biofuels.”

“Queensland is known internationally for its renewable and biofuel credentials and our goals and targets align closely with the US. By meeting with other world leaders we will continue to this charge.”

Minister Bailey will undertake meetings with energy industry leaders from the United States across California, Colorado and Texas from 3-10 August.
