New fire station will help Federal Rural Fire Brigade save lives

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) Rural Fire Service (RFS) volunteers operating in Federal will be better-equipped to protect their local community with the official opening of their new fire station tomorrow.

Murrumba MP Chris Whiting will represent Police, Fire and Emergency Services Minister Bill Byrne at the opening.

Mr Whiting said the new station would provide a much-needed base for the Federal Rural Fire Brigade to continue to deliver essential, life-saving services in the area.

“The 15 hardworking volunteers who make up the Federal Rural Fire Brigade will be better-equipped following the opening of this station,” he said.

“It will house their three appliances and fire-fighting equipment, and also provide the brigade with space to conduct important training.

“The $205,000 station was constructed by Woombye Garage and Sheds, with the majority of funding provided by the brigade and $25,000 provided by a QFES station grant.”

Since July last year, the Federal Rural Fire Brigade has provided primary response to 13 incidents and three planned hazard reduction burns.

“Servicing an area of approximately 90 square kilometres, the brigade is now well-equipped to continue protecting their community well into the future,” Minister Byrne said.

“This dedicated brigade has been protecting the Federal community for 45 years and the new station will significantly enhance its ability to continue to deliver vital firefighting and fire mitigation services.”
