The Lake Borumba boat ramp is back in business after receiving a $410,000 makeover.

Treasurer Curtis Pitt said it was a joint initiative between Seqwater and the Department of National Parks, Sport and Racing.

“The re-opening of the lake’s only access boat ramp ensures the necessary infrastructure is in place in time for Round Five of competition in the popular Basstasstic Bass Fishing tournament this weekend (27 and 28 August),” Mr Pitt said.

“Anglers competing in the Basstasstic Bass Fishing Tournament will be among the first to take advantage of the new ramp.

“As a government, we are committed to creating more sport and active recreation opportunities for all Queenslanders and this program is a great example of that, with my department providing recreational infrastructure in and around Seqwater’s lakes to increase and improve community access.

“With the weather warming up over the next few months I encourage locals to head down to Lake Borumba and take advantage of this fantastic new facility.”

The existing single lane ramp was removed and replaced with a new, double lane boat ramp with a queuing area to the left of the ramp.

Work on the boat ramp started mid-July and took less than six weeks to complete. Boat access to the lake was temporarily closed during the work.

Seqwater Acting Chief Executive Officer Jim Pruss thanked users for their patience and said the ramp was upgraded to improve safety and usability.

“The lake is a popular spot for fishing, boating and water skiing and hosts numerous recreational competitions throughout the year,” Mr Pruss said.

“Seqwater manages numerous dams that are open to recreation and improving access to the water is an important part of our commitment to boaties.

“There has been strong community support for this upgrade which was expressed through Seqwater’s Recreation Review in 2013-14.

“The new boat ramp is a great addition and will make launching and retrieval of boats safer and easier for everyone.”

To further enhance the site, Seqwater will build a new fish cleaning table to complement the upgraded boat ramp.
