The Honourable Kate Jones

Queensland will be on show in India this week, with Tourism and Events Queensland (TEQ) leading tourism operators from across the State on an international trade mission.

Destination Showcase India, a joint mission in partnership with Visit Victoria, includes 17 Queensland operators travelling to Delhi and Mumbai to promote the State’s tourism products and experiences.

Minister for Tourism and Major Events Kate Jones said the tour would further connect Queensland’s tourism industry with the Indian market.

“This is a great opportunity to show the unique experiences Queensland has to offer in a market that is experiencing double-digit growth,” Ms Jones said.

“More and more travellers from India are visiting Queensland and in the year ending March 2016, Indian travellers to our state increased by 19 per cent as an important part of our record $5 billion international visitor economy.

“The Palaszczuk Government is committed to bringing more visitors to Queensland by connecting with Asian countries such as India, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong and of course our most valuable international market, China.”

TEQ Chief Executive Leanne Coddington said: “Showcasing Queensland’s unique and world class experiences in continental Asia continues to be a priority for TEQ in growing visitors from the eastern markets.

“This international mission will be the largest group of Queensland tourism operators to travel to India in recent years, demonstrating the importance of this market to the State’s tourism economy.”

Destination Showcase India 2016 starts today in Mumbai until Thursday 24 August in Delhi.

Participants will meet with and provide training to key travel agents promoting Queensland and their business, attend networking functions and gain valuable insights in the Indian market.
