The Honourable Kate Jones

Minister for Education Kate Jones today officially opened the new Deebing Heights State School.

Ms Jones said Deebing Heights State School opened its doors to local students in January 2016 and had fast become an important part of the Ripley Valley community.

“Deebing Heights is growing rapidly and is home to many young families, including defence force families from nearby Amberley,” she said.

“The new facilities and dedicated teaching staff are already delivering a quality education for students.

“It’s an exciting time for the new students who have joined a school community with modern, state-of-the-art facilities.”

Ms Jones said the school would expand to accommodate up to 1000 students over the next 10 years.

“We have positioned this new school in an emerging community to cater for families in this rapidly expanding area of southeast Queensland,” she said.

“There has also been very strong community involvement with parents and community volunteers helping to set up the school’s impressive and well-resourced library and active engagement from the new P&C Association.

“We know how important an engaged community is to developing successful schools and the Deebing Heights community has been behind the school from day one.”

Foundation principal Andrew McDonald said Deebing Heights State School was working closely with the local community to nurture the school’s vision of excellence in teaching, excellence in learning and excellence in partnerships.

“The support from our school community has been incredible this year and I look forward to continuing this relationship into the future,” he said.

“We’ve had an exciting and productive school year so far and I know we are offering our students a great education in their local community.”
