“One World Many Faces” is the theme of this year’s Toowoomba Languages and Cultures Festival being held at Queen’s Park today.

Queensland Multicultural Minister, Grace Grace, who is attending the Festival, said it was a major event on Toowoomba’s multicultural calendar.

“I’m absolutely delighted to make the trip up the range for this Festival which is another highlight of Multicultural Month for me.

“Toowoomba has a thriving multicultural community with around 5% of local residents able to speak a language other than English in the home.

“This shows that Toowoomba really is a major driver of our state’s multicultural success,” Ms Grace said.

Minister Grace also praised the efforts of Festival Chair, Gitie House, who was recently named a member of the government’s Multicultural Queensland Advisory Council.

“I’m especially happy to be at the Festival to publically acknowledge the hard work and dedication of Gitie.

“Festivals like this don’t just happen – they are the result of years of commitment and perserverance by people like Gitie.

“She is an extremely worthy member of the new Advisory Council and I’m very much looking forward to working with her and the other Council members,” Minister Grace said.

Queensland Multicultural Month is the state’s largest celebration of our unique diversity and its benefits.

“It’s events like these that help to unite Queensland as we come together and celebrate multiculturalism,” Ms Grace said.

“I encourage all Queenslanders to try something new during August and experience the rich culture and traditions that make up our wonderful state.

“With more than 60 events – from cultural festivals and fairs, exhibitions, musical performances and workshops, open days to market days – being held across the state, there’s sure to be something for everyone to enjoy.
