NSW and Qld Premiers Discuss Greater Collaboration To Combat Serious Organised Crime

Premiers Mike Baird and Annastacia Palaszczuk have agreed to greater collaboration between their two states and their respective law enforcement agencies in tackling serious organised crime.

Premier Palaszczuk was accompanied by her Attorney-General, Yvette D’Ath and Police Minister Bill Byrne to today’s meeting with Premier Baird and Deputy Premier Troy Grant in Sydney.

Both said today’s discussions have reinforced the Qld and NSW Governments close working arrangements and collaboration in Law Enforcement and Policing.

Agenda items included Organised Crime Involvement in Child Exploitation Offences, Boiler Room Fraud, Fortification Removal Orders, Consorting, and  the ‘Wearing of Colours’ Prohibition.

Mr Baird and Ms Palaszczuk cited the success of a recent Queensland and New South Wales Police and the Australian Federal Police collaboration, “Operation Unison,” which located criminals hiding out in Coolangatta and Tweed Heads, as an example of what can be achieved from shared intelligence and collaboration.

“Operation Unison” resulted in 13 people being arrested and 39 warrants being executed on 49 offenders.

These raids came ahead of the Queensland Government’s introduction of a suite of Organised Crime Laws later this month (August).
