Minister for Main Roads, Road Safety and Ports and Minister for Energy, Biofuels and Water Supply
The Honourable Mark Bailey

Students at 24 schools across Queensland will be safer with the introduction of new crossing supervisors this financial year.

Main Roads and Road Safety Minister Mark Bailey said the supervisors were among 75 being introduced to Queensland schools over three years.

“We are funding 25 new school crossing supervisors at 24 schools this financial year to improve safety for students,” Mr Bailey said.

“These crossings will benefit students for many years to come.

“Our crossing supervisors do a tremendous job ensuring students cross the road safely.

“They also teach them valuable lessons about road safety.

“Supervised school crossings encourage more children and pedestrians to use the crossing instead of other dangerous areas.

“Motorists also benefit from supervised school crossings, experiencing fewer delays.”

Education Minister Kate Jones welcomed the extra supervised crossings.

“These new supervised school crossings will help our students safely travel to and from school,” Ms Jones said.

“Supervised crossings have a proven track record protecting pedestrians during peak times before and after school.”
