Treasurer and Minister for Sport Curtis Pitt and Olympic Gold medallist Libby Trickett officially launch Sanitarium’s Little BIG DASH today, an event designed to put the fun into physical activity.

Mr Pitt said the Little BIG DASH encourages families to embrace an active lifestyle in a safe and non-competitive environment.

“This is a very popular event that’s all about getting kids and their families outside to be more physically active together during their family recreation time,” Mr Pitt said.

“Last year more than 4,200 people took part in Little BIG DASH and already around 2,500 have registered for the upcoming Brisbane event.

“Participants will take on 3kms of obstacles and also enjoy an onsite expo with a range of displays and fun activities, with most looking forward to the free Weet-Bix breakfast.”

Mr Pitt said the Palaszczuk Government had supported Sanitarium’s 2016 Little BIG DASH event with $90,000 in funding.

“The Palaszczuk Government is focused on increasing opportunities for all Queenslanders to get involved in sport and active recreation,” Mr Pitt said.

“The little BIG DASH event will help us to achieve this outcome by inspiring and setting a positive example for young Queenslanders.

“It is a terrific opportunity for families to take part in physical activity that is both active and fun.

“I commend Sanitarium for its clear commitment to helping families improve their health and well-being. I also thank Ambassador Libby Trickett for supporting this very worthwhile event.”

Sanitarium general manager Todd Saunders said the Little BIG DASH features unmissable activities and obstacles especially designed for kids aged 5-15 and for adults looking to get in touch with their inner child.

“We’re thrilled to bring back the Little BIG DASH from Sanitarium for another year and expand the event to reach more families than ever before,” he said.

“In an age where the addictive allure of screen time sees Australians living an increasing sedentary lifestyle, our aim is to get kids and adults on their feet and bring family and fitness together in the most enjoyable way possible.”

Little BIG DASH will take part on Sunday 24 July at Seventh Brigade Park in Chermside. To find out more see the website: www.littlebigdash.com.au
