Three up and coming locals have been recognised for excellence in their field, snaring awards at this year’s Master Plumbers Association of Queensland (MPAQ) industry Awards Night.

David Lowry from Rochedale South and Christopher Powell from Logan Village picked up the Apprentice of the Year and 3rd Year Apprentice of the Year awards respectively, with Paul McKenna from Rochedale South winning the Hydraulic Consultant of the Year.

Mr Lowry is in his second year of study at Skillstech and working with Plumbkrazi, while Mr Powell is studying at the Service Trades College Queensland and working with PHP Contractors. Mr McKenna works with Aqualogical.

Minister for Housing and Public Works and Member for Springwood Mick de Brenni congratulated the winners for their outstanding work in the field.

“I’m immensely proud to see Logan City’s hard-working apprentices like David and Chris receive recognition for their hard work,” Mr de Brenni said.

“David’s only in his second year of studies for a Certificate IV but has already impressed employers and co-workers alike with his passion and drive. I wish him all the best in his future goals of opening his own business.

“Chris started his career in hydraulic services design and is aiming to get into water treatment site supervision work or possibly further design study in the future. I’m sure he’ll excel in his future career wherever it takes him.”

“Paul McKenna is a consultant who’s done some amazing work designing hydraulic services for a repurposed Brisbane CBD building. His skills have helped transform a tired and run down office tower into a modern and comfortable building.”

Mr de Brenni said the MPAQ awards, now in their seventeenth year, recognised the important role that plumbing and gasfitting plays across the state.

“This outstanding level of local success shows that you can really count on our local tradies to stand above the pack,” he said.

“These awards clearly show that Logan companies are not only at the cutting edge when it comes to innovation in the industry, but are investing heavily in developing the next generation of industry leaders.

“Our community should be incredibly proud of what these locals have achieved,” Mr de Brenni said.
