Gold Coast plumbers and gasfitters have been recognised for excellence in their field, snaring three awards at this year’s Master Plumbers Association of Queensland (MPAQ) Industry Awards Night.

Christopher Contracting Pty Ltd picked up two awards on the night, with Allan Afonso receiving the coveted Plumbers’ Union Queensland Employee of the Year title.

Minister for Housing and Public Works Mick de Brenni congratulated the winners for their outstanding work in the field.

“As a hydraulic services site manager on multiple sites, Allan is a worthy winner for his leadership and team-building skills,” Mr de Brenni said.

“Molendinar-based Christopher Contracting was also recognised on Friday night for their efforts in training the next generation of plumbers, as well as their great work achieving a six-star green rating on a major Brisbane CBD development.

“They’re one of only two recipients on the night to pick up two awards, the Department of Housing and Public Works Environmental Company of the Year and the Services Trades Queensland Major Contractor of the Year.”

Mr de Brenni said the wins for Gold Coast contenders proved the region’s international image as a tourism destination of choice was in good hands.

“A skilled plumbing industry is vital to keeping hotels, swimming pools and water parks operating cleanly and efficiently 365 days a year,” he said.

“The Gold Coast is renowned as a clean, green destination for families and quality plumbing keeps it that way.

“The Department of Housing and Public Works is proud to sponsor an award which recognises companies that go the extra mile taking care of the environment, and it’s great to see a company on the beautiful Gold Coast taking it home this year,” Mr de Brenni said.
