The Blues on Broadbeach Music Festival has confirmed itself as one of the Gold Coast’s largest annual events after delivering record visitors in 2016.

Minister for Tourism and Major Events Kate Jones said the largest number of visitors in history attended the May festival, spending more and staying longer than ever before.

“Attracting close to 100,000 visitor nights makes this one of the most significant major events on the Gold Coast,” Ms Jones said.

“More than 168,000 people attended the four-day festival, with around 27,000 of those travelling to the Gold Coast for the event, up 29 per cent on 2015.

“Festival goers also delivered an economic boost of around $20 million into the local economy, representing an increase of 24 per cent on last year.

“It is a great example of a highly successful event which drives economic benefit in line with investment, ensuring great outcomes for the community and taxpayer dollars.

“This fantastic outcome is testament to event organisers Broadbeach Alliance who have built Blues on Broadbeach into a significant economic driver for the Gold Coast.”

Blues on Broadbeach is a free event developed by Broadbeach Alliance.

Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate said the event boosted visitors to the area over what was traditionally a low tourism period.

“Events like Blues on Broadbeach and the Country Music weekend help cement our determination to be one of Australia’s great event cities,” Mayor Tom Tate said.

“I know there are other major attractions being planned for the Gold Coast. I’m confident these will also enjoy record support like the Blues.’’

Jan McCormick, CEO Broadbeach Alliance says that in its 15th year, the results of 2016 Blues on Broadbeach reflects the engagement of all stakeholders in the precinct.

“These results are no accident and are a result of the way Broadbeach and the city as a whole has embraced the festival. The extended footprint delivers such an exceptional experience for all attendees which sees them coming back year on year.” Mrs McCormick said.

“It is testament to the team here at Broadbeach Alliance and our commitment to deliver world class entertainment within a world class festival whilst keeping it completely free to attend.”

Blues on Broadbeach is proudly supported by the Queensland Government through Tourism and Events Queensland with next year’s event scheduled for 18 to 21 May 2017.
