The Honourable Stirling Hinchliffe

Three new members will join the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Corporation (GOLDOC) Board to strengthen governance arrangements and ensure Queensland is well-placed to meet the requirements and challenges of delivering the largest sporting event in Australia this decade.

Minister for the Commonwealth Games Stirling Hinchliffe said the appointments followed a thorough review of the structure and experience of the Board relative to where planning for Games delivery is positioned.

“The GOLDOC Board has delivered outstanding results so far with planning and progress for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games on time and on budget,” Mr Hinchliffe said.

“However the increasing momentum as the Games draws closers means we require additional capabilities at the Board level. These appointments join up the administrative and financial oversight of Government and Commonwealth Games agencies to deliver a seamless GC2018.

“We’re going for gold to deliver a great Games and I’m confident the expanded Board will ensure Queensland is Games-ready by 2018.”

Mr Hinchliffe said the board would include the following new members:

  • Ms Megan Houghton, Director-General, Department of Tourism, Major Events, Small Business and the Commonwealth Games
  • Mr Craig Phillips, Chief Executive Officer, Australian Commonwealth Games Association (ACGA); and
  • Ms Bronwyn Morris, Chair Finance and Audit Committee, GOLDOC.

Mr Hinchliffe said the new members bring a wealth of skills and experience, including major event experience, finance skills and State Government representation.

“These appointments will strengthen governance and boost the capacity of GOLDOC’s Board,” he said.

The Governor acting with the advice of the Executive Council has approved the appointment of the new GOLDOC Board members.

Changes to the Board require consultation with the ACGA.
