Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Yvette D’Ath has appointed Judge Fleur Kingham as the new President of the Land Court of Queensland.

Mrs D’Ath said Judge Kingham’s experience and knowledge made her an ideal candidate for the position.

“The insight on which Judge Kingham can draw for her new role stretches back throughout her distinguished career,” said Mrs D’Ath.

Judge Kingham is a District Court Judge, a Judge of the Children’s Court of Queensland and a Judge of the Planning and Environment Court.

Judge Kingham has also been a member of Land Court and Deputy President of the Land and Resources Tribunal.

“In both that role and her time as Deputy President of the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal, Judge Kingham has developed the administrative leadership that is vital in the Land Court of Queensland.

“Prior to her appointment to the bench, Judge Kingham worked as an environmental lawyer, advised government on environmental and resources law, and mediated complex disputes including indigenous land and governance issues.

“This variety of work experience, which is so relevant to the work of the Land Court, makes Judge Kingham’s appointment even more appropriate.

“I would also like to thank the Acting President of the Land Court, Mr Wayne Cochrane, for his diligent service to the court.”

Judge Kingham’s appointment term commences on Monday 8 August 2016.
