New thinking for Logan Housing

The Honourable Mick de Brenni

Logan’s public housing will remain in Government hands with the Palaszczuk Government terminating the pending privatisation of the management of 4,900 houses in the region.

Minister for Housing and Public Works Mick de Brenni said that government had an integral role in the delivery of public housing for Queenslanders and was best placed to continue to provide housing services in Logan.

“The previous Government’s housing privatisation plan was risky and unprecedented in scale,” Mr de Brenni said.

“It’s not the policy of this Government to privatise essential services and I want to make it very clear that this includes public housing.”

Mr de Brenni said the Queensland Government would now focus on the revitalisation of Logan, beginning with $17 million funding for the construction of 70 new public homes over the next three years.

“We are currently working with Queenslanders to develop a new ten year housing strategy and I think that in Logan, we have a perfect opportunity for redevelopment,” he said.

“The plain truth is that housing in Logan was simply neglected by the previous LNP Government.

“Our new plan for Logan will be developed in consultation with the Council, residents and other important stakeholders.

“I believe the Government has a responsibility to play its part in building an even more vibrant community.

“I am going to make sure that when it comes to housing and essential services for the most vulnerable, Logan will never be left behind or put in the too-hard basket again,” Mr de Brenni said.
