Property expert appointed to South Bank Corporation Board

Prominent property expert and former Commonwealth Games boss, Nigel Chamier AM, will bring his development expertise to the re-invigorated South Bank Corporation Board to help shape the future of the important community and cultural precinct.

In welcoming the appointment, Minister for Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning, Jackie Trad, said Mr Chamier’s experience and skills would be a valuable addition to the Board.

“As the former Chairman of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Corporation, former Queensland President of the Property Council of Australia and two decades at real estate and investment giant, JLL, Nigel brings with him a wealth of experience and knowledge well suited to driving the objectives of the South Bank Corporation Board,” Ms Trad said.

“The South Bank precinct attracts around 11 million visitors and hosts more than 150 cultural events each year, so it is essential we have the best people guiding its future development.

“With extensive experience in bringing out the best in high profile public sites, and providing the necessary guidance on development, particularly within much loved community precincts, I’m confident Nigel is well suited to this role.”

“The Palaszczuk Government looks forward to working with Nigel, and his fellow Board members, to ensure this increasingly popular and cherished part of Brisbane continues to improve.”

Mr Chamier has also been widely recognised for his work in heritage preservation including overseeing the $215 million restoration of Brisbane City Hall and major roles in the development of landmark Brisbane buildings including Central Plaza and the Riverside Centre on Eagle Street.

He was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia this year for significant service to the community, particularly to economic development programs and heritage preservation initiatives and a Medal of the Order of Australia in 1994 for services to the property industry.

He is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, the Australian Property Institute and the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Mr Chamier will join Chairperson, Dr Catherin Bull AM and members Ms Susan Forrester, Mr Matthew Miller, Ms Andrea Kenafake, Mr Timothy Quinn, Ms Stephanie Wyeth, Mr Richard Kirk, and Mr Michael Power AM and the Department of Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning’s Deputy Director-General of Planning, Mr Stuart Moseley.

Mr Chamier has been appointed to a vacant position on the Board until 28 February 2019.
