Minister for Innovation, Science and the Digital Economy and Minister for Small Business
The Honourable Leeanne Enoch

The search for Queensland’s Small Business Champion has begun with the opening of expressions of interest for the new role today.

The Small Business Champion was a key part of the Palaszczuk Government’s Advancing Small Business Queensland Strategy 2016-20 announcement made in last month’s State Budget.

Small Business Minister Leeanne Enoch said the Champion will drive the Strategy to help Queensland small business start, grow and employ.

“We have provided $22.7 million towards the Advancing Small Business Queensland Strategy to achieve this and the Small Business Champion will be a key contributor in ensuring success,” Ms Enoch said.

“We’re looking for a highly regarded individual who can listen to small businesses, advocate on their behalf to governments, and help policy makers gain practical insights into the impact of policy and regulation on the small business community.

“We want someone who is passionate about small businesses improving their survival rates, getting more businesses globally connected, creating more jobs, streamlining processes and helping small businesses to work smarter, not harder.”

Minister Enoch said the Champion would give Queensland’s small businesses a stronger voice on the national stage, something that has been missing since the abolition of the Queensland Small Business Commissioner by the previous LNP Government in 2012.

“The Small Business Champion will provide stronger advocacy for the state’s 406,000 small businesses so their views and concerns are heard by all levels of government,” Ms Enoch said.

“The Champion will engage federal and state commissioners and peak bodies, provide information on issues to the Queensland Small Business Advisory Council and the Red Tape Reduction Advisory Council and promote services available for small businesses.”

The Small Business Champion is a part-time role within the Office of Small Business.
