The Honourable Grace Grace

Racing Minister Grace Grace today met with greyhound industry representatives to discuss the future of greyhound racing in Queensland.

Ms Grace said Queensland greyhound racing had a viable future, with animal welfare and integrity the keys to maintaining public confidence in the industry.

“The Queensland Government won’t be following the New South Wales ban on greyhound racing,” she said.

“I believe that the greyhound industry in Queensland is up to the challenge of reform and ensuring that we have the highest standards of animal welfare and integrity in Australia.

“It was pleasing to hear from industry participants that they’re more than willing to work with the government and with the Queensland Racing Integrity Commission to ensure animal welfare and integrity in this State.

“The government and the greyhound industry both understand that maintaining public confidence is the key to the future of greyhound racing in Queensland.

“Thanks to our racing reforms including the creation of an independent standalone racing integrity commission, all three codes of racing have a bright future in Queensland.

“I want to thank representatives of the Queensland greyhound racing industry for meeting with me today, and I want to assure them we will continue to work with them for the betterment of the industry and all its participants.”
