Premier and Minister for the Arts
The Honourable Annastacia Palaszczuk

On behalf of the Government, I received the report of the Barrett Adolescent Centre Commission of Inquiry (the Commission) conducted by Commissioner The Honourable Margaret Wilson QC this afternoon.

I committed at the last election to an inquiry into the closure of the Barrett Adolescent Centre, and the transition arrangements for the young people who were patients of the Centre.

At the Commissioner’s request, the Government will carefully consider the report before publicly releasing it with the Government's response due in the next few weeks.

Prior to that, the Government will offer the families involved an opportunity to attend a private and confidential briefing.

I appreciate the media’s cooperation in respecting the privacy of the young people and their families over the next few weeks as we work through the report.

My Government is determined to respond to all of the Commission's findings and recommendations.

My Government is also determined that the interests of the children, their private clinical information and their families are protected.
