New state of the art police station set for Bowen

A new police station will be built in Bowen as part of the Palaszczuk Government’s commitment to boost policing services across North Queensland.                             

Visiting Bowen today, Minister Assisting the Premier on North Queensland Coralee O‘Rourke said the station would be built at a new location, allowing the current station at 28 Williams Street to continue operations without creating disruption to police.

“This year’s State Budget delivers on a commitment to ensure the people of North Queensland have access to state-of-the-art facilities to enhance their policing service,” Mrs O’Rourke said.

“Land has been purchased in Powell Street adjacent to the current police station and plans are being drawn up for a new complex designed to meet the policing needs for the growing region.

“The new station will be a state of the art facility with purpose built areas for general duties operations, detectives, intelligence and the Road Policing Command.”

Minister O’Rourke said the new complex would also give frontline police the ability to take advantage of new technology to support policing in the community and to deliver a modern police service.

“The Queensland Police Service recognises the importance of regional operations and the proposed new facility is evidence of this,” she said.

The building is expected to be completed by late 2017 and is part of a $6.1 million Queensland Government Budget commitment to replace and upgrade police facilities across the state
