Employment Minister Grace Grace today met with business and community leaders from the Darling Downs – South West Queensland region to discuss ideas to generate employment opportunities for local residents.

Minister Grace said the employment forum held in Toowoomba was attended by representatives from business, industry and local government.

“Today’s forum provided a wonderful opportunity for local business and community leaders to discuss how the Queensland Government can continue to work with the community to support jobs,” she said.

“It also provided a chance to work together to identify new opportunities and initiatives to generate local job creation.

“Today’s event was part of a state-wide series of forums which are helping to deepen our understanding of each region’s strengths and challenges and identify solutions that may work locally.

“I look forward to working together to foster new ideas and develop practical solutions to local challenges.”

Ms Grace said that job creation was one of the Palaszczuk Government’s top priorities, with 51,000 jobs created in Queensland since the State Election.

“We have a plan to create more jobs and get more Queenslanders back into work,” she said.

“Youth and regional unemployment remain priority areas for the Queensland Government and we’re working hard to achieve better employment outcomes.

“Our Jobs Now, Jobs for the Future employment strategy includes the $1.6 billion Working Queensland jobs package to support businesses, provide skills and training, and get Queenslanders back to work.

“We will continue to listen and provide opportunities for Queensland businesses, local government and the community to tell us what they need to support more Queenslanders getting jobs.”
