Tim Nicholls and the LNP have snubbed regional Queensland jobseekers, Employment Minister Grace Grace said.

“Tim Nicholls’ jobs announcement is misguided and doesn’t target support where it’s most needed – and that’s in regional Queensland,” she said.

“It’s poorly thought out, lacks adequate financial incentives and would be hampered by a lack of on-the-ground delivery and coordination.

“And to make matters worse, it targets incentives at the wrong end of the employment and training cycle.

“It’s no use promising apprentices $500 at the end of an apprenticeship – they need it at the beginning of an apprenticeship when they’re actually on the job.

“This hastily cobbled together package is doomed to failure because the LNP doesn’t understand how modern workplaces work.

“Our two-year $100 million Back To Work program will support up to 8,000 jobs, all in regional Queensland.

“It’s available to all regionally-based businesses who are willing to put on a jobseeker, not just businesses with a turnover of less than $2 million.”
