Coldplay returns to rock Suncorp Stadium

The Grammy Award-winning Coldplay will bring their ‘A Head Full of Dreams Tour’ to Suncorp Stadium and Treasurer Curtis Pitt has said Queenslanders will need to move at the 'Speed of Sound' to snare a ticket.

“I’m thrilled to see our iconic stadium yet again being the 'Talk' of the town when it comes to international acts,” Mr Pitt said.

"Sometimes it feels like 'Us Against the World' when it comes to attracting events like this but there's 'Daylight' between Suncorp Stadium and other venues who'd surely have to look at Brisbane with 'Green Eyes'. 

'The December 6 concert is expected to inject millions into the Queensland economy and create jobs across a range of sectors.

“A sold out event will typically require around 1,500 staff across catering, security, transport, usher and events. Local traders, accommodation and transport providers and other entertainment venues all benefit from these big shows.

“These major concerts help send 'A Message' and raise the profile of Brisbane, promoting the stadium internationally and bring significant economic benefits to Queensland.”

Coldplay’s appearance will be the 18^th concert at Suncorp Stadium since its redevelopment and the second time Coldplay have played at the venue.

Mr Pitt said Coldplay’s first Suncorp Stadium gig in November 2012 was a sell out and was 'Paradise' for those lucky enough to be at the show.

“Chris Martin and the band have a huge following and continue to push the boundaries in terms of their songwriting, performance, technology and musical innovation so I’m sure Queenslanders will flock to see them again,” Mr Pitt said.

“Stadium events and major concerts aren’t just great economic enablers, they're 'Life in Technicolour' and deliver 'A Sky Full of Stars' for fans and a sense of vibrancy for the city.”

Residents living in the Stadium precinct 'Don't Panic' - you'll be offered the opportunity to pre-purchase tickets to the concert from 3pm Thursday 26th May and 5pm Sunday 29th May.

For the first time, local residents can access their tickets online through Ticketek so they don’t have to visit the stadium box office to purchase.

'A Hopeful Transmission' of this special pre-sale will be communicated to the local community via a letterbox drop commencing Monday 23 May.
