Employment Minister and Member for Brisbane Central Grace Grace is calling on the community to have its say on shaping the future development of the Bowen Hills Priority Development Area (PDA).

Ms Grace, who called for the review of the PDA at a recent rally, encouraged residents to have their say online from today, or at upcoming information sessions on 19 and 28 May 2016.

“The Bowen Hills PDA is re-energising more than 100 hectares of underutilised land, supporting significant economic growth and hundreds of local jobs for the community,” Ms Grace said.

“At the heart of the PDA, the RNA redevelopment project is currently supporting around 200 local construction jobs and up to 3,000 ongoing jobs each year.

“We want to hear from the community about what they think should happen next, and how they think we should continue to shape and reinvigorate this world-class precinct.

“This will help us to ensure the PDA continues to operate effectively, enabling economic and community development for future generations.

“Key topics to be explored through this consultation will include residential development, retail and entertainment, traffic and transport, heritage, community facilities, parkland and open space and infrastructure.

“The RNA showgrounds are one of Brisbane’s most cherished and historic locations, loved by residents and visitors alike.

“Any development on this site needs to enhance its rich history and help to drive jobs in the local economy, while respecting its unique character.

“Importantly, this review is an opportunity for us to finalise the heritage assessment of the Tivoli, which is currently underway.

“I have been fighting hard to save this live music venue, which is not only a part of our rich history but also attracts hundreds of people to our community each week.

“I’m excited about the RNA redevelopment and the benefits it will bring to the local community and I want as many residents as possible to have their say.”
