The Honourable Kate Jones
Minister for Education Kate Jones today launched a new grants scheme to support research projects focused on delivering positive changes in Queensland classrooms.
Ms Jones said the $1 million Education Horizon initiative would fund research focused on identifying best practice in education.
“This program will give researchers and academics the funding they need to pursue the best outcomes for our classrooms,” Ms Jones said.
“Their research will make a practical difference to the delivery of education from pre-kindergarten to post-secondary study by identifying and adopting best practice.”
Ms Jones said Education Horizon was a recommendation of an independent review of the department’s research functions.
“Queensland is fortunate to have the only education and training research grant scheme of this kind in the country,” she said.
“We are anticipating strong interest in the Education Horizon scheme, with grants of up to $100,000 for a single year in most categories, and up to $300,000 over three years for the open section projects.
“The department’s policies, programs and practices will change for the better through this leading edge research and our children, young people and adult students will benefit in the years to come.”
Queensland-based researchers and academics are encouraged to submit proposals under four categories – early childhood education and care, school education, vocational education and training (VET) and an open section for innovative, longer term research programs.
The projects must align with Education Queensland’s priorities, which include Learning in the 21st century, Health and Wellbeing, Leadership, Expertise and Support, Community Connections and Transitions, Pathways and Lifelong Learning.
Applications for the first round are now open and the successful grant recipients, who will share in the funding, will be announced in July 2016.
Applications close Friday 27 May 2016.
